AI Hallucination


I've been thinking about how rumors might have developed and circulated in the Deadhead community because the court documents give some evidence of how quickly word may have spread after Greg and Mary lost their lives. In Thomas v. Wong (C93-0616 MHP) one reads the following: 

"[Megan] Barry left the Rainbow Village on the night of the murders to drive north. Id. at 561. She heard about the murders a few days later, from others who had left the Village and come up to Chico. Id. "Bo" was there when she first heard the news. Several people were sitting on his car, a gray or silver Scirocco or Rabbit, discussing the murder. Id. 562. Someone mentioned a newspaper article that said that authorities were looking for a man in a silver Volkswagen. Bo then told everyone to get off his car and left. Id. at 563."

Von Wendel's testimony corroborates Barry's account because he related how the blond man who came to fetch his backpack was driving a Volkswagen with a passenger in it. Speaking of that passenger, we know that Robert Herbert recounted that:

"Several weeks after Bo moved in, Herbert and Cauffield witnessed a confrontation in their living room between Bo and Weston Sudduth. Id at 743. Herbert testified that Sudduth angrily demanded: "How can you sleep at night? How can you live with yourself? Why were you washing your hands in the early morning in the bathroom? Id. at 745. In response, Bo was passive and sheepish. Id at 746." (Thomas v. Wong [C93-0616 MHP], p. 19) So by early September, word had gotten around that ol' Bo may have committed the murders. 

Of course, if he'd witnessed the killings, then trauma might explain why Bo left quickly when someone mentioned they were looking for a blond guy driving a VW, why he was passive and sheepish when confronted by Sudduth, and why Herbert and friends found him alone and distraught while out on a hike.

So then I got to thinking about the conspiracy theories that have circulated over the years, and a Google search gave me this as part of an AI response:

  • Specific examples: The cases investigated include the murders of Mary Regina Gioia and Gregory Allen Kniffin in 1985 and the disappearance of Bridget Lee Pendell-Williamson in 1996, who vanished while following the band. 
Great...a hallucination.

Greg's Voice?

I n the previous post  I  tried to show that Mary and Greg probably walked past Cercy's vehicle as they left Rainbow Village. Thomas testified that he did. Let's consider the possibility that Greg's voice was the " voice that sounded  white" that Vivian Cercy said she heard that night.  I've discussed how Cercy heard a voice that "sounded white" in another post. ( The 'White' Voice )  Here's the relevant section again: "[...]  Cercy heard two male voices, one of which sounded white, talking behind her car. The person with the white voice said, ‘Leave her alone; she's got two kids.’ A few seconds later there was a knock on the window of the driver's door and Cercy saw a man wearing a pea coat. He asked her name and where she was staying. [Cercy told the man she was staying with Harry Shorman.] When he asked what color bus Harry owned, Cercy asked the man why he was questioning her. Did the Blond Man See and/or Hear Something That Night?

Von Wendel’s Sea Space Station Moored in North Inlet Let’s assume “the blond man” didn’t commit the murders, and let’s also assume that he slept on Claus Von Wendel’s boat that night.   This raises the question:  “Did he see or hear something?"   Vivian Cercy’s  account of what she witnessed seems to overlap with  Von Wendel’s account of his encounter with Bo .  Cercy saw a blond man with a backpack and Von Wendel found what probably was a backpack on the veranda of his boat and a blond man fetched it later in the day. "Vivian returned to her original parking spot, down the hill, and prepared herself and her children for sleep. About 15 minutes later, she heard three noises that sounded like fire-crackers.
